Effective cleaning of the printhead in direct-to-substrate white ink printers ensures optimal print quality and extends printhead lifespan. Below is a detailed guide to cleaning procedures and methods:

I. Preparation
Materials: Printhead cleaning solution, clean non-woven cloth or lint-free paper, medical syringe, distilled water.

Environment: Select a clean, dust-free workspace to prevent contaminants from entering the nozzle during cleaning.

II. Routine Maintenance Cleaning
Software-Controlled Automatic Cleaning: Most direct-to-garment printers feature built-in nozzle cleaning programs. Access the cleaning function via the machine’s control panel or connected software. The machine will automatically inject cleaning solution or ink into the nozzle to flush out partial blockages. Perform routine automatic cleaning 1-2 times weekly.

Surface Wiping: Gently wipe the nozzle surface with a lint-free cloth or dust-free paper dampened with a small amount of cleaning solution to remove adhered ink and debris. Avoid applying excessive pressure to prevent nozzle damage.

III. Deep Cleaning
Soaking Method
1. Power off the machine. Carefully remove the nozzle and place it in a container with sufficient cleaning solution, ensuring full immersion.
2. Soak duration depends on clog severity, typically 2–4 hours; soak overnight for severe clogs.

3. After soaking, rinse the printhead with distilled water. Then, draw distilled water into a syringe and slowly inject it through the ink inlet, allowing the water to flow out through the nozzles for further internal cleaning.

IV. Pressure Cleaning Method

1. Reinstall the printhead into the machine without connecting the ink supply system.

2. Draw cleaning solution into a syringe and connect it to the printhead's ink inlet port.

3. Slowly push the syringe plunger to apply pressure to the printhead, forcing cleaning solution out through the nozzles. Repeat this process multiple times until the expelled liquid runs clear.

V. Post-Cleaning Procedures
Installing the Nozzle: After deep cleaning, wipe the nozzle surface dry with a clean non-woven cloth. Reinstall the nozzle into the machine, ensuring it is securely fastened and correctly connected.

Test Printing: After installing the nozzle, perform a test print. First print simple patterns or color blocks to observe the print quality. If issues like broken lines or color deviation persist, additional cleaning may be required.

VI. Precautions
Use appropriate cleaning solution: Employ cleaning solutions recommended by the machine manufacturer. Different nozzle models may have varying requirements for cleaning solutions; unsuitable solutions may damage the nozzle.

Prevent nozzle drying: When the machine is unused for extended periods, perform regular nozzle maintenance to prevent ink from drying and clogging inside the nozzle. Cover the nozzle surface with a damp non-woven cloth to reduce ink evaporation.

Handle with care: During cleaning, perform all operations gently to avoid bumping or scratching the nozzles, which could cause physical damage.
