Fabrics with different base colors have significantly different requirements for ink compatibility. Many professionals tend to take a one-size-fits-all approach when purchasing consumables, which can lead to issues such as dull, grayish colors, insufficient pattern coverage, and peeling ink layers. Selecting ink based on the fabric’s base color is essential to achieving the desired visual results for printed pieces.
Light-colored fabrics are a common application in direct-to-fabric printing. Since these fabrics have pale base colors that do not interfere with the printed colors, the primary considerations when selecting inks should be color expressiveness and blending effects. Direct-to-fabric inks suitable for light-colored fabrics offer natural color gradations and, when applied to fabric fibers, faithfully reproduce the hues and details of the design artwork.
