What causes blurry printing on digital T-shirt printers?

When using a digital T-shirt printer, we may encounter issues with blurry printed images. What causes this blurriness?

  1. Insufficient source image clarity: If the original image has low resolution, the printed pattern will appear blurry. To ensure pattern clarity, it is recommended that the source image resolution be at least 300dpi.
  2. Inadequate precision of the digital T-shirt printer: If the device itself lacks sufficient precision, it will also affect printing results. The machine’s precision can be adjusted using printing software to improve print quality.
  3. Nozzle issues: If increasing image resolution yields no significant improvement, nozzle problems may be the cause. If the nozzle height is too low, it can easily clog, affecting pattern color. If the nozzle height is too high, ink may form an angle as the nozzle moves, causing blurred pattern edges. Therefore, adjusting the nozzle to an appropriate height during printing is essential.

How to improve the color fastness of digital T-shirt printers?

Several methods exist to enhance color fastness in digital T-shirt printers, outlined below:

  1. Selecting suitable digital printing inks forms the foundation for improving various color fastness properties.
  2. Establish a rational printing process for digital T-shirt printers to ensure consistent dye fastness. Methods to enhance color fastness include:

(1) Prior to printing, subject fabrics to appropriate pretreatment (boiling, bleaching, mercerization, singeing, cellulase smoothing, etc.). These processes enhance surface smoothness and hairiness, reduce friction resistance, minimize floating color, and effectively boost fabric colorfastness.

(2) Appropriately intensify washing processes. Strengthening color fixation and soap washing significantly improves wash fastness and rub fastness. If necessary, use specialized detergents, which also aid in enhancing color fastness. Employing fabric softeners and color fixatives effectively boosts color fastness.

  1. The colorfastness of reactive-dyed fabrics is closely related to dyeing depth, meaning the amount of color transfer exhibits a nearly perfect linear relationship with dyeing depth. Ink saturation during printing is a critical factor. When printing dark colors, ink volume should be high but not significantly exceed saturation levels. Experiments show that when dyeing dark fabrics, adding more dye does not deepen the color—the same applies to digital T-shirt printing. This occurs because excess dye fails to bind with fibers, instead accumulating on the fabric surface as floating color, severely compromising colorfastness.
